Face fit testing
Face fit testing is a test in which to see how well a respirator fits a
person’s face. In any work place if you issue clothes you have to issue the
right size. However, respirators were commonly believed to be one size fits all
but that’s not the case as more people have died from respiratory hazards in
the work place. For more information on face fit testing visit our site at: http://www.firesafeinternational.co.uk/page/face_fit_testing

Fire Risk Assessment
There are two commonly used methods of
confirming mask fit:
Qualitative - This is perhaps the most
common face fit tesing method and is best understood as assessing the
"Quality" of the fit. A strong tasting substance is used as a test
agent and the basic principal is that if the person wearing the mask is unable
to taste the agent, then the mask fits.
Quantitative - This face fit testing
technique involves measuring the fit of a mask and "Quantifying" the
result. It involves the use of computerised test equipment which measures mask
leakage. There are a few types of test equipment available but by far the most
common used is the TSI Portacount machine. This is able to measure small
naturally occurring particles (pollen, sand, smoke, fly ash, etc).
